Roads without death: more high-quality roads – hopefully, less death

Recently, one of the highways of Transcarpathian region was included into the so-called list of "Roads of Death", also Hennadiy Moskal stated that there was not enough money for the repair of Transcarpathian roads, which are maintained at the expense of the Ukrainian Road Service. 170 million hryvnias was allocated only for "Kyiv – Chop" highway, which stretches for 132.5 kilometers within the limits of Transcarpathia.

The day before, March 30, at a joint meeting of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Transport, Budget, Finance and Banking Affairs and the Committee on Economic Policy, they also discussed the development of road transport infrastructure.

"Being on the border with four EU countries (Hungary, Slovakia, Poland, Romania), the Carpathians serve as the western gateway for foreign economic cooperation. A large volume of domestic and transit freight import and export traffic goes through the region. Accordingly: the development of road transport infrastructure plays a significant role," – Dubnevich said, commenting on the event.

According to the People’s Deputy, it is necessary to solve three key tasks in the Carpathian region, as well as Lviv region: to complete already started construction of roads and ensure quality repairs of existing ones; to make more border crossing points (build some new ones and improve and equip existing ones according to global standards). Finally, it is necessary to streamline the work of the Ukrzaliznytsya, which has repeatedly disrupted road repair works by failing to deliver building materials in time.

The Minister of Infrastructure Volodymyr Omelyan during his visit to Transcarpathia on April 5 stressed that the most important thing for the region is the repair of the Kyiv-Chop highway: "Currently, repair of the Kyiv-Chop road is a priority for Transcarpathian region. This year, more than UAH 430 million will be allocated for its repair. Also, UAH 218.7 million will be allocated for repair and construction works on highways of local importance. In addition, the Ukravtodor approved the list of projects under the customs experiment at UAH 100 million. That is, this year we have guaranteed financing in the amount of over 840 million hryvnias, which is almost a third more than that in the last year", – the head of the Ministry said.

Finally, it became known how much each region will receive for the repair of roads: thus, subvention amounting to UAH 11.5 billion is provided in the State Road Fund for the repair and maintenance of the local road infrastructure; Transcarpathia will receive UAH 218,740.3 thousand.

Yesterday, the work on the road H-09 began within Khust bypass road with further advancement in the direction of Mukachevo. According to Valeriy Lunchchenko, works are being carried out under the customs experiment in Transcarpathian region. The company "PBS" is performing the works.
