How Uzhgorod community protects their property (PHOTOS)

Today, the public hearings on the privatization of the city communal property took place. The city government wants to sell 48 objects. The community decided to intervene in the process. Social activist Yulia Dub informed how it was.

"Now the public hearing is taking place in the assembly hall of Uzhgorod city council. People are outraged that deputies want to sell a large number (48 objects) of public facilities that were rented out for "pennies" (eg, buildings in the city center (Teatralna Sq., 7a) 118 sq. m. for 1312 UAH per month, that is 11 UAH for one sq. m.). People believe that the government that has completely lost credit has no right to sell municipal property because it is a "massive carving at the end of the term."

Bogdan Andriyiv – the Secretary of the City Council – spoke the fisrt, told nothing of any substance, put the blame on the head of the property department.

Poltavtseva Tetyana – the head of the property management dept. – reported on the objects offered for sale.

The representative of financial department reported that the city has made profit during the year (there is a significant surplus, about UAH 50 million) and there is no need to sell the property under non-transparent schemes.   

Vasyl Maniak said that the sale of those facilities by the criminal authorities was unacceptable.

Economist – "These 48 facilities are almost 80% of the public property of the city."

Yaroslav Shafar suggested to terminate all illegal lease agreements (stressed on the one at Teatralna Sq. 7a). He said that UAH 25 million debt was a non-existent amount that had been just made up.

Architect Petro Szarvas said that the restaurant "Chervena Ruzha" was a monument of architectural heritage and could not be sold without drafting and signing of appropriate documents.

Natalia Maystrenko told about a number of violations which the offenders must be held accountable for.

Briefly:
1. Remove the draft decision on the sale of municipal property from the agenda.
2. Submit a draft decision on the moratorium on the sale of municipal property at the session of Uzhgorod city council.

Resolution was adopted with 2 amendments: 
– To prepare all the necessary documents for the "Chervena Ruzha"
– To review all lease agreements".
