The Security Service of Ukraine together with the traffic policemen arrested a citizen of Ukraine, a resident of Perechyn, who was was collecting information about the airport "Uzhgorod". This was reported by the Tyzhden with reference to the press service of the Security Service of Ukraine.
The offender was secretly photographing buildings, structures and adjacent territories of the International Airport "Uzhgorod". The saboteur was interested in images of the runway, control station, navigation and radar facilities and Onokivtsi HPP (Uzhgorod district).
During the search of the offender’s house, they found the handbook of the Ministry of Defense of USSR "Guide to explosive work" (classified "for official use only"). In addition, they seized from him documents about the needs of the 15th mountain infantry battalion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (stationed in Transcarpathian region).
The Security Service of Ukraine Office in Transcarpathian region opened a criminal proceeding over this fact on the grounds of crime under Art. 113 (diversion) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
This information has caused a response in the society. Thus, a leading lawyer, teacher of UzhNU Vasyl Lemak believes that this arrest proves that "Russian agents are actively collecting classified and open information to destabilize the situation in the region and possibly to prepare to work in special circumstances. The attention of the external aggressor’s spies to the airport can be a proof of preparation for sabotage or preparation for the invasion." Given this, V.Lemak calls on the authorities, management of military units and law enforcement agencies to ensure prevention of such a scenario.
