The regional prosecutor, according to the new Criminal Procedure Code, has announced to the deputy of Uzhgorod City Council Maria Zilhalova that she is suspected of a criminal offense under Part 3. 368 of Criminal Code of Ukraine).Prosecutor’s office ensured control over the pretrial investigation.
Investigation department have entered to the Unified register of pre-trial investigation the information about the commission of the criminal offense under Part 3. 368 Criminal Code of Ukraine (bribery on a large scale combined with extortion – punishable by imprisonment for a term of 5 to 10 years with confiscation of property).It was found out that in December last year an Uzhgorod businessman asked the City Council Deputy Maria Zilhalova to help in resolving an issue. The latter, who is also a member of the Standing committee on the rational use of land resources of Uzhgorod, assured the entrepreneur that without a bribe in the amount of $ 5,000 for her assistance in the above matter, he would not receive an approval for the privatization of land plot in Uzhgorod, on Fedynets street.
Thus, the entrepreneur agreed to her conditions and on December 26, 2012, the deputy Zilhalova received from his hands the first part of the bribe – 1,000 dollars.
January 24, Zilhalova met with the entrepreneur to receive the rest of the sum. In the Uzhgorod entrepreneur’s car, near the shopping center "Luxor" on Fedynets street, Maria Zilhalova was detained by the police while receiving a 4,000 dollars bribe. The woman is held in Uzhgorod remand prison.
