Running among the aromas of Cersegi, Merlot, Cabernet and Pinot Noir… The participants of the Chizay Wine Run in the Chizay tract near Beregovo ran about two kilometers.
The idea to arrange a Wine Run was suggested by tourism expert, professor of Uzhgorod National University, Fedir Shandor. He said that the event is a reference to a very interesting story and the revival of tradition.
Thus, 150 years ago, young Beregovo teachers who returned from studying in Budapest established the first sports association in Transcarpathia and arranged the first race in the Chizay tract.
Last Sunday, September 22, their route was recreated by volunteers – students of the Faculty of Social Sciences of UzhNU headed by Professor Sandor.
Volodymyr Popovich was the first among the twenty participants to cross the finish line. The 19-year-old boy enjoys sports, in particular running, and has awards from several marathons.
But in this Wine Run, no medals have been awarded. The goal is to start a new tradition of Chizay Wine Run in Transcarpathia, as this event is very fitting for the wine region.
The participants were rewarded with a beautiful scenery, unforgettable experience and unique wine of the local Cersegi variety.
According to Anatoly Poloskov, the director of the Chateau Chizay winery, the idea is to arrange a big sports and recreational event here in the most beautiful vineyards of Ukraine next year, because the landscapes are striking and very attractive to tourists. The area of the company’s plantation near Beregovo is almost 80 hectares, which allows even a half marathon to be held there.
Meanwhile, the winery, which respects the history of Transcarpathia, is preparing to invite everyone to the first interactive Museum of Viticulture and Enology in the region.
The celebration on the occasion of the opening of the Chiz Winery Museum in Beregovo, in the Chizay Tract No. 1 is scheduled for October 12.
