Which streets in Uzhgorod will be renamed this time?

Public hearings on the renaming of a number of streets were held in the Uzhgorod City Council.

Thus, after discussions, some of which were rather heated, the following suggestions were made:

Renaming of Karol Meysarosh street (considered "the first historian of Uzhgorod") to Anton Kashshay street (outstanding Transcarpathian artist, one of the founders of the Transcarpathian school of painting).

Also the suggestions to name new streets of the city were supported:

Dmytro Popovich (November 7, 1899 – October 3, 1968, teacher, writer, public and church figure, sentenced to 25 years for refusing to convert to Moscow Orthodoxy).

Konstyantin Hrabar (August 15, 1877 – November 21, 1938, Greek Catholic priest, governor of Subcarpathian Rus).

To name the square after Gavrilo Gluck (19.05.1912 – 11.02.1983, Ukrainian painter, Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR).

To rename Ivan Firtsak street to Vasyl Svyda street (22.10.1913 – 19.04.1989, Ukrainian sculptor, people’s artist of Ukraine, laureate of the

Peremoha street to Kapushanska street (historical name).

Following the public hearings, a draft decision will be prepared for the session of the city council, where these matter will be finally resolved.
