Vyacheslav Grozny: “No one will dictate to us how and who should govern our country!”

The head coach of Uzhgorod "Goverla" Vyacheslav Grozny made a statement in connection with a military invasion to the territory of Ukraine:

We want to make decisions in our country ourselves, without anyone’s coercion, and no one will dictate to us how and who should govern our country, we, the citizens of Ukraine will deal with this ourselves. Unfortunately, today we see external interference, infringement to the territorial integrity of our country – this is a wrong stand of the aggressor country. All the world guarantors must have their say and defend Ukraine and do everything possible to preserve the integrity of the state.    Of course, any talks about football in such conditions are impossible. We, citizens of Ukraine, want peace to prevail in the country, we respect all nationalities living in Ukraine, therefore football can not stand aside.     Ukraine is no more the state which can be controlled by anyone, no one in the world can control our state. The foreign policy of some countries, which is aimed at distabilization of our state, independence, democracy, will have no result. Now it is difficult to think about football when we are on the brink of war, when foreign troops invade our country.

We are football people, our team, both Ukrainians and foreigners, support the territorial integrity of the country, its independence, its a choice that no one from outside can dictate to us. We are all shocked about what is happening.  Therefore, now we have to unite, forget some internal strifes – the law on languages, which I’m sure will be corrected – and fight for the integrity of the country.

– It is unclear now when the second half of the championship will start.  The team is now practicing, we do not let players go. We planned to go to training camp to Debrecen, but not all players have visas. Maybe Slovak or Hungarian teams will come here and we will play friendly matches, maybe Ukrainian teams will come to training camp in Transcarpathia, so we will have the opportunity to have sparring matches.     All the players understand the complexity of the situation. We want piece in the country and to confidently look to the future
