‘Vichnyk’ won the Yuriy Meihesh award

Mukachevo City Council released the decision on the establishment of literary award named after Yuriy Meihesh for the public last year. This is considered to honor not only the memory of the famous writer, fellow countryman and honorable citizen but also to encourage the literary life in Mukachevo which has significantly intensified recently. The literary association ‘Ridne slovo’, students and pupils’ studios, ‘Karpatska Vezha’ edition annually publishes dozens of books are working there. 

The books of different genres, which are nominated by creative unions and public organization, are accepted for the award. Its awarding is planned to be annual and in a single order. The ten persons’ commission selected five editions of six authors. Book-nominees have passed the discussion in the local press, letters from readers were examined, as well as the librarians, journalists and cultural workers reviews. According to the results of the secret voting the first literary Yuriy Meihesh award won Myroslav Dochynets for the novel ‘Vichnyk’, which already gained the nationwide reading popularity. It is planned to present awards during the days of the city celebrations in May.

By the way, Uzhgorod Dramatic Theater is going to set a performance based on this piece of writing. And one of the Lviv publishers suggested the author M. Dochynets to prepare its adapted version for the young readers.
