UzhNU is preparing a large-scale project for the reconstruction of the legendary “Skalka” (Illustration)

The sanatorium of UzhNU "Skalka", which has been out of operation for some twenty years and has been falling into decay for almost all the period of Ukraine’s independence, has a chance for absolute transformation. The management of UzhNU plans to implement ambitious project of restoration and renewal of the "Skalka". Specialists of the "Karatbud plus" LLC demonstrated how the "Skalka" complex may look soon. For about three months, they were developing the general concept of the reconstruction of the health center, which was presented at the UzhNU earlier this week. 

According to the project, the "Skalka" will be divided into areas: residential area with buildings and modern cabins (for 15 persons each), separate building for people with disabilities (for 30 persons), wellness area – with medical and balneological buildings, seasonal tent city where hockey ground can be equipped in winter. And also, it is planned to provide territory for the construction of an autonomous conference hall that will accommodate up to 300 participants with all necessary equipment for scientific and business meetings. The pride of the complex will be a modern indoor gym, where not only students but also Olympic champions could be trained. Also, experts suggest to use the territory to the greatest advantage, in particular, to make bike paths.

Of course, UzhNU cannot implement such a large-scale project on their own. So the next step will be searching for sources of funding and investors. The management proposes to study the issue comprehensively: they are already preparing an appeal to the relevant ministries, regional authorities, searching for investors and studying grant programs.
