Today, at the customs post "Dyakove" of the Transcarpathian customs office, customs officers found hidden 5kg of amber in the car of a citizen of Ukraine. The Ukrainian was going on private business to Romania by a car "VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT" with registration license plates of Poland.
For customs control, the citizen chose the simplified customs control lane – "green corridor". Customs officers decided to conduct thorough customs inspection of the car for possible hidden objects and goods.
Before the customs control, the citizen orally stated that he had no goods and items hidden from customs control or prohibited for export from Ukraine.
However, during the in-depth inspection of the car, customs officers found in a 10 liters metal canister the goods hidden from customs control – a naturally occurring yellow-brown substance with different shades, with a diameter of 5 mm to 30 mm – namely amber.
In his explanation, the citizen of Ukraine said that his friend had asked him to carry the amber across the border and said that it was rocks for aquarium.
The determination of the cost of the seized goods requires additional assessment involving an expert. The actions of the citizen have signs of violation of customs regulations under part 1 of Article 483 of the Customs Code of Ukraine. Currently, the report on violation of customs rules has been drawn up, and the amber was seized.
