Ukrainian bought cash foreign currency at 230 million more than sold

The population of Ukraine, since the beginning of September, bought cash foreign currency at 230 million dollars more than sold, whereas in August – at about 200 million dollars.

This was informed by the Director of the General department of the monetary policy of the National Bank Olena Shcherbakova, the "Interfax-Ukraine" reported.

"Since the beginning of September until today we have "minus" 230 million dollars", – she said at the press conference on Tuesday.

According to Shcherbakova, net buying of cash foreign currency by Ukrainians in September could reach 250 million dollars.

"To say that the situation is difficult would be an understatement. People are confused," – she said.

According to Shcherbakova, this situation forced the NBU to resort to putting restrictions on the sale of cash of foreign currency at the equivalent of 3,000 UAH to one person a day.

She said that the NBU intends to monitor the reaction of the market to this restriction for a week, and to decide on the next steps thereafter.

The Director of the General Department also reported on further deposit outflow: adjusted for rate changes, its amount is estimated at 104 billion hryvnias for January-August.
