Transcarpathians are diving into ice cold river waters (VIDEO)

Today, January 19, the entire Orthodox world is celebrating one of the most important holidays on the church calendar – the feast of Epiphany. 
Epiphany – the Baptism of the Lord – is the third and final great holiday of the Christmas and New Year’s cycle. Orthodox and Greek Catholic Christians celebrate it on January 19th.
It is believed that on the Epiphany, from midnight to midnight, water acquires healing properties and retains them throughout the year, curing physical and spiritual ailments. That is why consecration of water is carried out on the Epiphany in all the temples. Water bodies – rivers and lakes – are also consecrated. Water consecrated on the Epiphany is believed to be a cure for many ailments.
Nowadays, the Feast of the Epiphany, although without all the ancient rites, is traditionally celebrated in every region of Ukraine. Even non-believers find it beneficial to dip into the icy water during winter.
