Transcarpathians adopt less. But still actively (PHOTOS)

Yesterday, July 8, it was the Day of Family. Together with the Transcarpathian Regional Centre of Social Services for Family, Children and Youth we visited the "Hostynny dim" hotel where children have a rest and their parents, meanwhile, share experiences and learn new ways of educating their adopted children.

 "The development of a family type orphanage network is one of the priorities of the Centre of Social Services for Children and Youth. Since we have to support public policy, we protect the right of childdren to upbringing in the family. The state supports such forms of family education, both financially and through social services. Every 2 years we conduct training to prevent parents’ emotional burnout" – the leading specialist of the department of social work of the Transcarpathian Regional Centre of Social Services for Family, Children and Youth Kvitoslava Demydchuk says. 

This summer there have already been 3 shifts at the summer camp for foster children with 24 houseparents and 46 foster parents from all over the region. 

Kvitoslava informs: "In the summer camp, more than 70 parents and 60 children have rested and studied. This form (parents learn, while children rest) has been operating for 3 years. Prior to that, we had been training parents separately and they worried about their children, who were far away."

The official added that compared to the previous year, in Transcarpathia, there are less people willing to take responsibility and adopt a child. The same is true at the national level.  

Statistically, most foster families are in Mukachevo and Vynogradiv district (in each of these districts more than 50 orphans are brought in the families).

Overall, as of June 30, there are 62 foster families and 36 family type orphanages in the region. Thus, 114 children are brought up in foster families and 246 children – in family type orphanages.
