Transcarpathian Regional Council decided to attract foreign funds to UzhNU

Deputies of the Regional Council amended the regional "Program of regional higher education development in 2013 – 2017".

The need to make a decision on amendments to the regional program of regional higher education development in 2013 – 2017 is caused by the needs of the regional labor market. In recent years, a number of new specialties have been opened, and this in turn requires a properly equipped classroom fund.

In 1989, in Uzhgorod National University, the construction of the laboratory building with the total area of 11 900 sq.m. was started. Currently, the readiness of the facility is 70%. In addition to the classroom fund, they plan to equip in the building the room for storing more than 530,000 books, including 20,000 unique old prints of the UzhNU library which is now located in the building of the Mukachevo Greek Catholic Eparchy on Kapitulna Street. To complete the construction and put the building into operation, they plan to raise funds from international financial institutions, including the IVF and other sources, as well as the regional budget. This project was discussed and positively received by representatives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Slovakia, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Poland during their recent visit to Transcarpathia.

The deputies have made changes to the educational program. So, this year, it is planned to allocate from the regional budget 1.5 million hryvnias for "major repairs, reconstruction, production of project documentation, purchase of construction materials and equipment." Another 1.5 million will be drawn from other sources.

The program provides for further funding of the project in the coming years.
