Transcarpathian Petro Maha about who and why are spreading the pseudosensations about imaginary separatism in Transcarpathia

Now that the heated debates about the language article of the Law "On Education" have subsided a little, it’s a good time to look back and appreciate the situation soberly: the "separatism" in Transcarpathia, which some journalists and TV programs were talking about, is just a fiction and nothing more, a native of Transcarpathia, the people’s artist of Ukraine Petro Maha wrote in the UP.Zhyttia.

The whole region was called a traitor without any arguments, facts or evidence.

It was just a sensation planted by our Hungarian neighbors, and the journalists believed it like little children, creating a basis for political speculation and election campaigns.

The mindlessness of some journalists can not but upset.

Everyone, who writes, speaks from the screen, is responsible for what is happening in the minds and hearts of people. And those are not just words.

And given that people are strung due to poverty and other disadvantages, the responsibility is much higher.

Let’s take a look at what is going on in Transcarpathia and whether there is Hungarian, Romanian, Slovak or any other imagined separatism there.

First, has the Transcarpathian community ever openly opposed Article 7 of the Law "On Education"?

No. Please note, there has been not a single rally, not even a single one-person picket. No public campaigns.

Does separatism look like this?

The only protest against Article 7 of the Ukrainian law "On Education" took place not in Transcarpathia, but in the capital of Hungary Budapest. It was organized by the right-wing radical Jobbik party.

There were about 100 people there, headed by a Hungarian communist.

And that’s all.

Second, are there any potential leaders of the pseudo-separatism?

And again, the answer is no. You will not find a single name. I am telling you this as a person born in Transcarpathia, who has relatives in Transcarpathia, whose brother is the principal of a school with Hungarian language of instruction in Transcarpathia.

Therefore, journalists had no reason to use the word "separatism" in materials on the response to the language article of the law "On Education" in Transcarpathia.

But that does not mean that there is no threat. There is. It is poverty of people, their desire to make their lives at least a little better.

So, now there are neither leaders, nor a will in Transcarpathia to take a step against Ukrainian statehood.

But look, the media have already almost written a story about it. We can already imagine a potrait of a Transcarpathian revolutionary.

Now, it will take just one fool craving for attention, who would want to try to make a story from the media come true. And this may already be a problem.

As for the language, I will say one thing – Ukrainian language should be the first, the second and the third most important thing in Ukraine. All other languages should just feel comfortable.

Is it realistic in Transcarpathia? Quite so. It is necessary to just create conditions for learning Ukrainian.

Now, Transcarpathia remains itself – children continue to go to school, poachers are destroying forests, the nearest working airport is in Europe, and trains with broken windows and doors run to Uzhgorod. But this is another topic – about real problems. Let’s talk about them instead.
