Transcarpathian Hungarians want to ask Kyiv to establish a united community with the center in Beregovo

The Transcarpathian Hungarians will appeal to the central authorities requesting to establish a united community with the center in Beregovo, which would include the settlements densely populated by Hungarian-speaking residents of the region. This was stated by the Deputy Chairman of the Transcarpathian Regional Council Yosyp Borto in an interview with the KiSzo.

According to him, Kyiv’s plans to reduce the number of districts in Transcarpathia from 13 to just 4 with centers in Uzhgorod, Mukachevo, Khust and Tyachiv are absolutely unacceptable for local Hungarians.

The topic of decentralization and the establishment of a separate "Hungarian" district was also recently discussed at the conference of the "Association of Border Self-Government Bodies of Transcarpathia" (chairman – Zoltan Babiak), that took place in the village of Yanoshi in Beregovo district. The meeting was attended by about 40 chairmen and secretaries of the village councils, deputies of the regional council and other organizations. In particular, it was argued that the settlements densely populated by Hungarians should be united into one territorial community.
