Transcarpathian customs officers confiscated from foreigners a bayonet-knife and a handgun

The incidents occurred at the customs post "Uzhgorod" of the Transcarpathian customs office. Yesterday, a car driven by a Polish citizen, who was traveling on private business to Ukraine, arrived at the said customs post.

During the oral survey, the Pole said that he was moving across the customs border of Ukraine only his personal effects and denied carrying any items subject to statutory prohibitions or restrictions on importation into the customs territory of Ukraine. However, taking into account the risks justifying inspection of goods or commercial vehicles, customs officers carried out customs inspection of the car, during which, among documents and things, they found an undeclared military bayonet-knife and sheath with the total length of 32.5 cm, that was on the floor next to the rear passenger seat.

The Pole did not recognize the found bayonet-knife as his property and said that it belonged to his brother, who had accidentally forgotten it in the car.

Also today, leaving Ukraine, a Slovak citizen, moving through the "red corridor" of the customs checkpoint and filling out the customs declaration, did not declare an object resembling a handgun made of black metal with marking "ZORAKI-MOD.914" made by ATAK arms ltd for "JGS", with 9 mm ammunition to it in the amount of 18 pieces. Customs officers found these objects, that the Slovak acknowledged to be his property, only after the customs inspection of the car.

Note that according to Paragraph 2 of Part 1 of Article 196 of the IC of Ukraine, carrying such bayonet-knife and handgun shall be subject to permits of the state authorities of Ukraine. In both cases, permits were missing. Thus, the foreign citizens violated the established procedure of customs control in areas (corridors) of simplified customs control, carrying across the customs border of Ukraine items the transportation whereof across the customs border of Ukraine Ukraine is restricted by law.

Therefore, these actions of the citizens have signs of violation of customs regulations stipulated in Articles 471 and 472 of the Customs Code of Ukraine. Based on Article 511 of the Customs Code of Ukraine, the objects that caused the violation of customs rules were confiscated.
