An attempt to illegally move a large batch of tobacco products across a Ukrainian-Romanian border was prevented last night by border guards of the department "Solotvyno" of the Mukachevo detachment.
Around 3.00 am, border patrol noticed a group of people moving towards the Tisa river, which makes the border to Romania. During an attempt to detain them, the offenders ran away. During further searches, 200 meters from the border, the servicemen found packages containing almost 23 boxes of cigarettes without excise stamps abandoned by the smugglers.
The contraband goods were delivered to the department "Solotvyno". After the count, it was found out that the smugglers had planned to move to the neighboring country 11,300 packs of cigarettes.
The cigarettes will be handed over to the SFS.
