Tourist wandering in Drahobrat found by rescuers

A message was received by the search and rescue service of Transcarpathia at 6:00 p.m. yesterday. It stated that a man, aged 38, from Zaporizzhia, had lost his reference point due to fog while skiing in meadow Drahobrat, Rakhiv district.

The Rescue service "101" was informed about this by the instructor of the tourist base where the man had settled. On telephone, he reported that the tourist could not find his way back because of strong wind and intense fog. His situation worsened because of the dark.

Professionals of mountain search and rescue groups from Yasinia and Rakhiv immediately went in search. The lost man was in contact with them all the time. He could name proper reference points and this made it easier for the rescuers to find him.

The tourist was found at 6:30 p.m. He was sent to the tourist base in Drahobrat where he had settled. The man did not need any medical help.

Despite the peek of the skiing season in the Carpathians, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Transcarpathia emphasises again the importance of being registered at the rescue unit. This procedure should be done before going skiing to avoid any incidents.
