Tourism in religious places: Ukraine-Hungary

Today in the city of Boktoloranthaza (Hungary), the international conference on the implementation of the "Tourist routes to a common religious and cultural heritage"  project in the framework of cross-border cooperation "Hungary-Slovakia-Romania-Ukraine 2007-2013" has launched.A large delegation from Transcarpathian region – representatives of local authorities, academics, church superiors – also participate in the conference, the press service of the Transcarpathian Regional Council reported.

During the implementation of the project, which started early last year, a tourist route has been developed, which covered more than 30 churches of Transcarpathian Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg region of Hungary. Among the Transcarpathian shrines there are Uzhgorod Greek Catholic Cathedral, Horyany rotunda, Mukachevo Church of St. Michael, and Beregovo and Vynogradiv Roman Catholic Churches, Khust, Vyshkovo, Tyachiv reformist and several other churches of great architectural and artistic value. Among the Hungarian ones – Roman Catholic Baktaloranthaza and Kisvarda and Reformist – Tarpa, Beregsurany, Marokpapi, Csaroda, Takos, Vamosatya, Lonya. Tiszaszentmarton, Beregdaroc, Tornyospalca, Anarcs, Laskod, etc.

   

The Chairman of Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg regional council Oscar Sestak said that the project will continue in the future. Also, its results will be made known to the Hungarian parliament. "We aim to reconstruct also medieval churches. This will preseve our ancestral heritage for future generations", – Oscar Sestak said.
