To avoid reprimands from parents because of the lost money, Uzhgorod students lied about a theft

Operatives of Uzhgorod Police Department found out that the statement about the theft from two students in the regional center of Transcarpathia was false.

On Tuesday, February 21, two students from Uzhgorod appealed to the police. They reported that they were on Nezalezhnist embankment near the vehicle bridge when they were attacked by two unknown persons who took their personal belongings. According to the statement, a 20-year-old Uzhgorod resident was robbed of a passport, a student ID card, credit cards and 1500 UAH. His friend, a 23-year-old student, allegedly was robbed of a wallet with a dorm pass, 200 UAH, credit cards and documents from the educational institution.

Officers of Uzhgorod criminal police conducted search operations and found ot that the students had lost their belongings because if their own negligence while being intoxicated. They made up the story about a theft, to avoid conflict with their parents.

The police are going to initiate criminal proceeding over this incident according to Art. 383 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, that is knowingly false report of a crime. This offense is punishable by correctional labor for up to two years, or arrest for up to six months, or restriction of liberty for up to three years, or imprisonment for up to two years.
