The sunny climate of the region encourages the Transcarpathians to install solar panels on their houses

According to the Department of Communications and Public Relations of the State Service for Energy Efficiency, the use of solar panels is rapidly gaining popularity among the population.  Interestingly, the first solar power station in Transcarpathian region, in the village of Rativtsi, Uzhgorod district, was launched in 2012. Over 6 thousand Ukrainian households have already installed solar power plants (SPPs) with a total capacity of 121 MW and produce their own electricity, the press service of the State Service for Energy Efficiency reported. Almost half of the SPPs – about 3 thousand – have been installed within 9 months of this year.

It is also important that the solar panel production technology is becoming cheaper in the world. Accordingly, the cost of installation of SPPs is gradually reducing. Project payback on average is 5-7 years. The five regions with the most private households with solar panels are: Kyiv – 727; Dnipropetrovsk – 694; Ternopil – 522; Kirovohrad – 401 and Ivano-Frankivsk – 363.
