The Security Service of Ukraine detained customs officers and border guards of the checkpoint “Tisa”, who were taking bribes from Ukrainian drivers of minibuses from Italy (PHOTO, VIDEO)

Today, September 2, the special forces of the Security Service of Ukraine Office in Transcarpathian region together with the military prosecutor’s office in Uzhgorod district conducted operational measures to apprehend corrupt customs officers at the customs post "Tisa", the Zakarpattya online informed. They were engaged in extortion from drivers of vans transporting parcels of migrant workers from Italy to their relatives in Ukraine.

The magnitude of these extortion can be imagined based on the fact that over weekend more than 1,000 minibuses pass through this checkpoint.

Officers of the Chop Customs, namely the department to combat smuggling, organized regular collection of bribes from these drivers. They created artificial obstacles during the customs and border control and demanded money for their elimination.

Currently, according to law enforcement officials, these individuals were detained by officers of the Security Service of Ukraine while receiving bribes from a minibus driver.

In addition, during the immediate investigation measures, they found so-called "black cash" of the checkpoint staff: it amounts to 200,000 UAH.

The above situation was revealed after the head of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration Hennadiy Moskal assured in the media that the management of the customs post "Tisa" would be reformatted for gross violations.

The detention came as a complete surprise for the customs office. Immediately, after the publication of the information about the incidents at the customs post "Tisa", the press service of the Main Office of the SFS in Ukraine in Transcarpathian region hastily tried to deny the facts.

"In pursuit of sensation, some media spread the information which is not true.

Today, 02.10.2016, the media reported that allegedly, at the customs post "Tisa", officers had been detained for corruption. In pursuit of sensation, journalists released photos and video, which captured the customs post workers, and called all, who were caught in the lens, "bribe-takers." We believe that this is not acceptable.

Journalism is facts, and facts that are clearly separated from opinions.

Currently, there has been no fact of detention of the Fiscal Service employeest, and the damage inflicted to the public authority and civil servants is irreparable. The honor, dignity and reputation of a civil servant today is not at the highest level, but humiliating calling all without exception bribe-takers has nothing to do with journalistic standards and freedom of speech.

We ask the media not to distribute information which has not been confirmed by competent law enforcement authorities!
