The Parliament recognized Soim of the Carpathian Ukraine and other liberation organizations fighters for independence

The Parliament passed the law recognizing the organizations that fought for the independence of Ukraine in the twentieth century.

271 MPs voted for the relevant law by Yuriy Shukhevych.

All the people, who fought for independence in military, paramilitary, underground, or political organizations or individually, shall be recognized as fighters for independence of Ukraine.

The law provides for recognition of such organizations as the Union for the Liberation of Ukraine, Ukrainian People’s Republic, Hetmanate of the WUPR, guerrilla and rebel groups of the Dnieper region, Carpathian Sich, UPA, OUN, Soim of the Carpathian Ukraine, Ukrainian Helsinki Union and so on.

"The State recognizes that the fighters for independence of Ukraine in the twentieth century, as defined in Article 1 of this law, played a major role in the restoration of Ukrainian statehood, declared by the Act of August 24, 1991, which is the main prerequisite for granting legal status and honoring the memory of the fighters for the independence of Ukraine in the twentieth century ", – the law states.

The state, by the law, can grant social guarantees and benefits and state awards to the fighters for independence.

"Public denial of the legitimacy of the struggle for the independence of Ukraine in the twentieth century shall be deemed as insult to the memory of the fighters for independence of Ukraine in the XX century disparagement of the Ukrainian people and shall be illegal", – the law states.
