The Parliament has limited duty-free import of goods across borders to no more than once in three days

The Verkhovna Rada has limited duty-free import of goods worth no more than EUR 50 and weighing no more than 50 kg to once in three days. Also, the time of a citizen’s absence in the country should not exceed 24 hours – the Interfax informs.

Appropriate amendments to the Customs Code (Law No. 7280) were adopted by the Parliament at a plenary meeting on Thursday.

In accordance with the adopted amendments to the customs legislation, if the above restrictions are exceeded, the tax base is considered to be the total value of imported goods in excess of the equivalent of EUR 50, taking into account the customs duty payable.

The goods will also be subject to the relevant customs duties in case of importation of goods by individuals in hand luggage or accompanying baggage more than once a day. In this case, the tax will be imposed on the goods being imported after the first crossing of the border.

Customs and excise taxes will be also imposed on goods in international postal and express shippings.
