The only sanatorium boarding school in the region is to be closed

The shocking post on Facebook was published by Mytrak Rimma, the director of the charity foundation "Faith, Hope, Love":

"Attention! Illegal closure of the school!!! Velyky Berezny comprehensive sanatorium boarding school needs your help! The situation in which the teachers and students of the school have found themselves needs support, advice and sharing of this post.

Velyky Berezny comprehensive sanatorium boarding school is the only one in Transcarpathia which provides educational services along with treatment and rehabilitation to children with cardiovascular and non-specific respiratory diseases.

The situation with COVID – 19 proves that such children are at risk. According to the Law of Ukraine "On Complete General Secondary Education" item 8, section X "Final and transitional provisions", the founders of sanatorium schools (sanatorium boarding schools) within one year from the date of entry into force of this Law should change the type of such educational institutions to lyceum with obligatory preservation of boarding facilities.

Despite this, the Department of Education and Science of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration, in particular the director of the Department of Education and Science of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration Sopkova Hanna Ivanivna, submitted to the regular session of the Transcarpathian Regional Council a draft decision on liquidation of our educational institution. The amendments to the Law of Ukraine "On Complete General Secondary Education" (to prevent closure of sanatorium schools (sanatorium boarding schools)) have already been submitted for approval to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. So the question is: Why was the illegal decision on liquidation of the Velyky Berezny sanatorium school adopted so urgently even before the adoption of amendments to the Law?

PS I would like to add that there are 66 sanatorium schools in Ukraine, but they decided to close only Velyky Berezny sanatorium boarding school. Although the Transcarpathian region has one of the highest COVID – 19 incidence rates," – the post reads.
