The Nationwide Children’s Reading Week in Uzhgorod started with a theatrical holiday

The Children’s Reading Week has solemnly launched in the Transcarpathian Regional Library for Children and Youth, during which the library staff plan to cover all age groups of its readers with interesting literary events.

They started with the youngest ones – first-graders. The theatrical performance was conducted by favorite fairy-tale characters who captured children’s attention with various contests and quizzes on stories from children’s books. In addition, they told little readers about the origin and history of the book, and about the Children’s Reading Week that traditionally precedes the International Children’s Book Day, which, in turn, is celebrated on April 2 – the birthday of the famous storyteller Hans Christian Andersen.

The holiday was introduced almost half a century ago by the International Children’s Book Council to emphasize the important role of children’s books in the formation of spiritual and intellectual face of new generations. Ukraine has been celebrating this day since 1993.

For the Children’s Reading Week, the Regional Library for Children and Youth has prepared a series of educational and entertaining events. Among other things, there will be a literary holiday "Poetic necklace of Mariyka Pidhiryanka" dedicated to 135th anniversary (March 24, at 11.45) and the presentation of the book by Vira Fesenko "Oh, My Black-Browed Fate…" (March 29, at 16.00).
