The man, who was caught drunk driving, is indeed a judge, but “is not serving justice” – Uzhgorod City Court

Yesterday, a high-profile incident occurred on the road in Transcarpathia. The driver stopped at the post in Mukachevo turned out to be drunk.

The examination showed that alcohol content in the blood exceeded the allowed level by 11 times – 2.4 ppm. The driver told the police that he was a judge of Uzhgorod city and district court. As it turned out, it was Mr. Rotmistrenko.

Today, the judicial institution commented on the incident. They confirmed that the driver indeed is a judge, however he… "is not serving justice."

"Mykhailo Rotmistrenko is indeed a judge of Uzhgorod city and district court in Transcarpathian region. Since October 2014, Mykhailo Rotmistrenko has not been serving justice. The reason is the expiry of the 5-year term of office as a judge. So for 2 years, the judge has been waiting for appointment to the permanent position. Also, from August 1 this year, Mykhailo Rotmistrenko has been in the annual vacation. In passing, we inform you that bringing judges to disciplinary action is not the responsibility of the management of Uzhgorod city and district court, and is the prerogative of the specially authorized body – the High Qualification Commission of Judges", the press service of Uzhgorod city and district court informs.

According to the sources, the judge is 35 years old and he is the nephew of the former head of the Constitutional Court Andriy Stryzhak
