On top of the picturesque Darvayka mountain, residents of the village of Kolochava recently installed a huge metal cross, which has been called the largest one in the Ukrainian Carpathians. The height of the cross is seven meters, its weight is one ton. The figure of Jesus Christ at the crucifixion is two meters high and it was painted by a local artist Pavlo Rosada.
The place for the cross rural was chosen for a reason – lightnings often strike on top of this mountain, and there have been accidents, in particularly lightnings have struck flocks of sheep and killed shepherds. According to residents of Kolochava, the cross will protect the mountain from the wrath of the heavenly powers and help all those who climb it and sincerely ask God’s help.
According to local activist Yuriy Klyvets, residents of the village of Horb raised funds and made other contributions for the making and installation of the cross. "Some gave the money, others – the material, yet others – transport, a lot of Kolochava residents worked on it – Yuriy says. – A tractor made a road to the mountain so that the cross could be brought to the top, and about fifty people were installing it for two days. It is impossible to list all of them, but we are extremely grateful to everyone who has contributed."
The cross was consecrated by the rector of the church "Descent of the Holy Spirit" in Kolochava – Horb Father Vasyl.
