The historic name will be returned to the village of Komsomolsk in Tyachiv district

The head of the RSA sent to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine the petition to rename the village of Komsomolsk in Tyachiv district, whose name is subject to the law on discommunization. Before 1947, the village was called Nimetska Mokra and this name will be returned to it by the order of the Parliament. The decision on renaming was taken at the general meeting of the villagers in April this year.

We remind you that local governments have to hold public hearings on renaming of settlements, whose names are associated with the communist past, within six months after the entry into force of the law on discommunization. Then, the Parliament within three months will adopt appropriate orders on renaming.

– In Transcarpathia, there is another village, whose name probably comes under the Law on discommunization – the village of Zhovtneve, belonging to Dragovo village council in Khust district – H. Moskal said. – However, as local residents do not want to change the name of the village, believing that it is not related to the communist past, we asked the Ukrainian National Memory Institute to give a clear explanation on this. If scholars conclude that the name of the village does contain communist symbols, it will be renamed by the Parliament on the recommendation of the Ukrainian National Memory Institute. That is the procedure stipulated by the Law "On the condemnation of Communist and National Socialist (Nazi) totalitarian regimes in Ukraine and prohibition of advocacy of their symbols."
