The first round of supplementary polio immunization in Transcarpathia is completed

During the first round of the nationwide polio immunization in Transcarpathian region, 25,940 children aged 2 months to 6 years were vaccinated with OPV vaccine (oral polyvaccine). Of those, 2,430 are infants.

The first round of immunization took place from October 26 to November 16. For the 2nd and 3rd rounds of supplementary polio immunization in the near future, according to the order of Ministry of Health, the region will receive another 200 thousand doses of OPV vaccine.

According to the Chief Pediatrician of Transcarpathian region Mykhailo RAD, vaccination in the region took place in 637 inoculation points involving 260 doctors and 770 employees of the nursing staff. Every child was examined by a doctor before inoculation, and their health was checked the day after the vaccination. No cases of complications due to inoculation was recorded. Mykhailo RAD stressed that vaccination is the only effective way to protect children from dangerous disease – polio.

There will be three rounds of immunization. In Transcarpathia the 1st round lasted 3 weeks – from October 26 to November 16. In the 1rd round, children aged 2 months to 6 years were vaccinated. The break between the 1st and the 2nd rounds is 1 month.

The 2nd stage of immunization will last 2 weeks. In the 2nd round, the same children will be vaccinated. In the 3rd round, children aged 6 to 10 years will be vaccinated.
