The first Petro Skunts prize will not be awarded in the field of literature, but only in regional studies

This year, the prize named after the outstanding poet Petro Skunts will be awarded in Uzhgorod for the first time.

Today, in the regional center, there was a meeting of the commission that elected the "finalists". And their decision was quite tough and principled. It was decided not to award the first prize to writers.

Today, members of the commission on the awarding of the municipal Petro Skunts Prize – the chairman of the commission Oleksander Bilak, literary scholar, the daughter of Petro Skunts, Natalia Skunts, the head of the department for sports, culture, family and youth of the City Council Olga Vasilindra, the director of the Transcarpathian Regional Universal Scientific Library named after Fedir Potushnyak Olena Kanyuka, associate professor, vice-rector of the Transcarpathian Academy of Arts, candidate of philological sciences, literary critic Natalia Rebryk, associate professor, the dean of the faculty of foreign philology of UzhNU, Mykhailo Roshko – met to determine the winners.

4 books – two in the nominations "regional studies" and two in "literature" – were accepted for the participation in the first competition. In the nomination "regional studies", those are the monograph of the professor of the Uzhgorod National University Mykhailo Tyvodar "Ethnography of Transcarpathia" and the study of the musical culture of the region "Millenium Tree" by Victor Shostak; in the nomination "literature" – the poem of Mykhailo Ryashko "Mercy" and the collection of Oleksandr Havrosh "Seven Pieces About Love to the Motherland".

After lengthy discussions, they decided that this year, the prize would not be awarded in the nomination "literature". The commission will recommend to submit for the consideration of Uzhgorod City Council a draft decision on awarding the Skunts Prize only in the nomination "regional studies" to both applicants – Mykhailo Tyvodar and Victor Shostak.
