The exhibition of folk costumes of the Carpathian basin regions has opened in Uzhgorod

"Folk costumes of the Carpathian region" is a collection of costumes from the private collection of György Barna now kept in the Otto Hermann Museum in Miskolc (Hungary) and including a total of 280 folk costumes from 120 settlements of 19 regions.

Today, the exhibition was solemnly opened in the Transcarpathian Regional Museum of Folk Architecture and Life on the occasion of the Day of Hungarian Culture.

The collection demonstrates festive attire of the late XIX – mid-XX centuries, which was typical for residents of villages and agricultural towns in the four major regions of the Carpathian Basin: Transdanubia (the territory west of the Danube), Felfold (the territory of modern Slovakia), Hungarian lowland or Alfold, Transylvania (Romania).

Along with Hungarian ethnic groups, the collection also includes costumes of Germans, South Slavs, Romanians, Bulgarians and other nationalities.

As noted at the opening by the Consul General of Hungary in Uzhgorod Jozsef Buhaylo, the exhibition is closely connected with the celebration of the Day of Hungarian culture, which will be held this weekend for the 28th time.

In turn, Arnold Tóth, the deputy director of the Otto Herman Museum, expressed his sincere gratitude to the management of the region, the Department of Culture of the RSA, the Transcarpathian Regional Museum of Folk Architecture and Life and numerous visitors for their attention to the exhibition and shared intentions regarding further interesting exchange activities.

The exhibition in Uzhgorod will run for two weeks. By the way, the collection has already been exhibited in Chernivtsi.
