The Constitution Day of Slovakia was celebrated in Uzhgorod

On the occasion of the national holiday – the Day of the Constitution of the Slovak Republic, which is celebrated on September 1, the Consul General of the Slovak Republic in Uzhgorod Janka Burianova and the Honorary Consul of the Slovak Republic in Velyky Berezny Oleg Adamchuk arranged a reception on Wednesday, September 7.

Representatives of regional and local authorities, NGOs, educational, artistic and creative collectives of Transcarpathia, clergy of various denominations, employees of diplomatic missions and journalists came to the Transcarpathian Regional Philharmonic Hall, where the celebrations took place, to congratulate neighbors on the occasion of the holiday. Heads of Slovak towns, the Union of Rusyn-Ukrainians of Slovakia, artists, writers, media workers, andy musical trio from Stará Ľubovňa also came to Uzhgorod.

The Academic Transcarpathian Folk Choir under the direction of Honored Worker of Culture of Ukraine Natalia Petiy-Potapchuk solemnly performed the national anthem of Slovakia and Ukraine, and the Consul General Janka Burianova gave a celebratory speech.  

She also noted that these days the fate of Ukraine is being decided at the level of high diplomacy between leaders of foreign countries. Slovakia, as a good and reliable neighbor is helping Ukraine on its way to the EU as best as it can.

The chairman of the Union of Rusyn-Ukrainians of Slovakia Petro Sokol, who was present at the ceremony, in a conversation with a reporter of the "Den" said that our friendly relations are based on many years of common history, extremely close cultures and customs, as well as on the firm belief in common future without borders, the possibility of free and unrestricted movement. "In order to develop and, at the same time, to preserve our ethnic identity, we have to communicate in all spheres of social life like close and good neighbors do" – Mr. Sokol said.
