The Antimonopoly Committee will check electricity and gas companies

For the first quarter of 2013, the Transcarpathian Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine received 20 statements, one complaint and an appeal on violation of competition laws. Having reviewed them, the Antimonopoly Committee stopped 11 violations of the law: abuse of dominant position on the market of paid services – administrative and cadastre, phytosanitary procedures and certificates issuance, inspection of technical condition of chimneys and ventilations and more.

Another violation was committed by a local government body, refusing to establish a ritual service. Also in the first quarter of this year the Antimonopoly Committee stopped 4 cases of unfair competition related to false advertising.

As the Head of the Transcarpathian Office of the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine Petro Kharchenko explained, those were, in particular, unreasonable use of the word "clinic" in advertisements by certain medical institutions. Also, another 12 facilities have been recommended to control unjustified increases of medicines prices during the SARS spread.

In addition, by the results of the reviewed cases the Antimonopoly Committee reduced tariffs for grave digging in Uzhgorod by 30 hryvnias (from 451 to 421).

Overall, for the first quarter of 2013, 51,000 UAH of fines have been imposed. The amount of funds paid to the state budget is 74,000 UAH.

As noted by Petro Kharchenko, this year the activities of the territorial office will be focused on the pharmaceutical market, electricity, gas, heat and water supply services, collection, removal and disposal of household waste and so on.
