Starting from January 1, 2016, in accordance with the agreement signed with the EU, the import of cars, that do not meet the Euro-5 environmental standard, that is older than 5 years, to Ukraine will be banned.

"With the signing of the agreement with the EU, Ukraine made a commitment that starting from January 1, next year, import of cars, that do not meet the Euro-5 environmental standards, to Ukraine would be banned", – Nazarenko said.

According to him, the standard was introduced in Europe in 2009, and it prohibits the import of cars that have been in use for more than 5 years.

"We signed this obligations in the agreement, and we can not abolish this law" – Nazarenko said.

He noted that the Euro-4 environmental standard shall be in force in Ukraine from January 1, 2014 to January 1, 2016.

Euro 4 is the environmental standard governing the content of harmful substances in exhaust gases of vehicles introduced in the EU in 2005.

Euro 5 is the mandatory standard for all new trucks sold in the European Union since October 2008, and for all passenger cars – from September 1, 2009.

Since the Euro-5 environmental standard actually became effective in the EU and the USA in 2009, automakers began production of cars, that meet the new rules, after September 2009.
