Slovakia is heading the Visegrad Four: what should Transcarpathia expect?

Since July 1 this year, the Slovak Republic has been presiding over the Visegrad Four. It took over this authority from Hungary.

Since the country is our neighbor, we have several checkpoints on the Ukrainian-Slovak border, the meeting on "Priorities of the Slovak Presidency in the Visegrad Four: Opportunities for Ukraine", which took place on July 12 in the RSA, was very timely. The event was organized by the Consulate General of the Slovak Republic in the city of Uzhgorod and National Institute for Strategic Studies. And, accordingly, the adviser at the directorate of the said Institute Svitlana Mitryayeva was in charge of the event. Representatives of diplomatic agencies, businessmen, international scholars and journalists were present at the event.

The Coordinator on Slovakia’s Chairmanship at V4 of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Roman Feyesh dwelled on the priorities. First of all, Slovakia will focus on building a strong Europe, solving the problem of migration, etc. Mr. Feyesh also talked about cooperation, the possibility of financing projects by the Vyshegrad Fund.

Olga Travina, the head of the Department of Economy and Strategic Planning of Uzhgorod City Council, stressed that Slovakia is a long partner of Uzhgorod, in particular, the cities of Kosice, Michalovce.

Diplomat Alen Panov rightly pointed out that along with such important things as the development of checkpoints, there are also purely moral ones. Like the attitude to the citizens with Ukrainian passports at the border. The Transcarpathian office of the Union of Diplomats of Ukraine this year is monitoring the situation on the Ukrainian-Slovak border.

By the way, the presidency of Slovakia in the Visegrad Four is going to be celebrated with a series of events in Uzhgorod. This was stated by the Consul of the Slovak Republic in Uzhgorod Miroslav Mojzita this year, in March, during the celebration of the Days of the Czech Republic and Slovakia in Uzhgorod, which were dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the establishment of Czechoslovakia. According to him, in October, they are going to hold a political conference in the regional center and discuss issues of cooperation, prospects of the two countries. The film "Spring in Transcarpathia" by folk artist Karel Fricko is going to be screened.
