Radio “Aphrodite” in Uzhgorod (Announcement)

May 15, 18:00, Uzhgorod, Teatralna Square.

Bring your friends and come to listen to the indie guerrilla project Misko Barbara, which includes an album-collection of contemporary covers of almost forgotten Ukrainian twentieth-century hits. This is an attempt to reconstruct what was destroyed. An attempt to imagine that the radio station under this name was not destroyed in 1945 and is still working.

"Aphrodite" was a short-wave (43 m) radio station of the UPA organized in order to tell the western world about the struggle of the OUN. It started working in the autumn of 1943. The equipment was purchased from the Polish underground for 45 thousand zloty and installed in a hut near the village of Yamelnytsia in Lviv region. The "Aphrodite" broadcasted 12 programs of 15 minutes daily in four languages: Ukrainian, Russian, French and English.

It was destroyed by the KGB on April 7, 1945.
