Pre-election сuriosities: Uzhhorod district election commission failed to get started

Meeting of the district election commission on single-mandate constituency No. 68 in Uzhgorod, which was scheduled for August 29 failed to be held due to the absence of the commission head Lyubov Lazorkina – a representative of the "Rus Yedyna" party. Failed to appear also the secretary of the commission Tatiana Obolkina – a representative of the "Anarchist Union of Ukraine."
It should be noted that this was the last day for the first meeting of the district election commission to be held. According to the Law of Ukraine "On Elections of People’s Deputies of Ukraine" the first meeting of the election committee shall be convened by its chairman no later than on the third day after its formation."

The deputy head of the commission Vitaly Maskalyuk informed the present members that the head and the secretary did not respond to any messages. Interestingly, the women do not even live in Uzhgorod, they are from Sevastopol and Kyiv respectively.

In general, the morning meeting was attended by 10 out of 18 members of the DEC. In such a situation, the law provides that, if necessary, the meeting may be convened by the decision of a higher election commission, the Central Election Commission. Therefore, members of the district election commission will apply to it so that the meeting could be convened today.

Another pecularity of this year’s election campaign is that according to the results of the draw only 19 political parties are represented in DECs.  This strange distribution seems to conceal some interesting scheme. For example, activists of Kharkiv branch of the "Common Cause" public movement found out about illegal transfer of the presidency in the district election commission (DEC) in Kharkiv region in favor of the Party of Regions.

Another case which may also testify in favor of such sceme occurred in Nizhyn.  Representative of the Korolevska’s party failed to register a district commission No. 209, which he heads, because he lost his passport. Interestingly, the secretary of the commission, a representative of the Anarchist Party did not even know about the existence of Nizhyn and about their own participation in the electoral process.
