Police refute that they started “repression against children.” But the “organizers” of the schoolchildren’s riot may be even imprisoned

The Office of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in Transcarpathian region published a statement which says that they do not plan to take actions against children – participants of the schoolchildren’s riot, but the organizers of the rally may be even sentenced to six-month imprisonment.

Here is the text of the statement: "As you know, October 28, at the Uzhgorod City Council there was a protest rally of about three hundred schoolchildren against the adjourning of autumn holidays.

Some media reported that the police allegedly began reprisals against students who came to the rally. This information is incorrect.

Uzhgorod city police department received a letter from the Mayor of Uzhgorod Victor Pogorelov, in which he asks to identify persons involved in the organization of these violations of public order, and to take appropriate remedial action in accordance with applicable law.

Currently, law enforcement agencies are collecting the information about the organizers of the meeting to bring them to the statutory liability for breach of the peace. This incident is pre-classified under Art.293 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (group violations of public order), which provides for fines of up to 850 UAH or arrest for up to six months. The investigation is ongoing.

However, there are no repression against the students who were participants in the events around the City Hall" – they wrote on the website of the Office of the MIA of Ukraine in Transcarpathian region.
