Police detained a man who was selling counterfeit alcohol in Transcarpathia

During the pre-trial investigation, the police found out that a 50-year-old resident of Svalyava had established in the region a scheme for the sale of counterfeit alcohol, namely vodka and cognac, for his own enrichment. The man was selling ready-to-sell products under the brands of well-known manufacturers and at prices significantly lower than the market ones.

The counterfeiter had his own customer base, which included both entrepreneurs and ordinary citizens. In addition, the businessman was selling dangerous alcohol in his own restaurant to visitors.

Police investigators sent the excise tax stamps of Ukraine used by the suspect and the liquids he was selling to conduct the necessary examinations. The expert concluded that excise stamps were counterfeit, and alcohol did not meet the state standards of Ukraine, ie it was dangerous for the human body.

Today, August 5, detectives from the regional police department, together with internal security officers and with the support of the special police company, conducted five searches. The policemen visited the suspect’s place of residence, the catering establishment owned by him, and other premises where the criminal was hiding counterfeit goods. As a result, a large consignment of counterfeit alcohol and cigarettes was found and confiscated as material evidence.

The man is charged with two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. These are Article 204 (illegal storage, sale or transportation for sale of excisable goods) and Article 199 (storage, purchase, transportation of holographic security features for use in the sale of goods).
The suspect was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and placed in a temporary detention center. Currently, the police are establishing channels of delivery of ​​counterfeit products to the region and the persons who have received dangerous products. The investigation into the case is ongoing.
