“Pogorelov is illegitimate!” – Public Convention (STATEMENT)

The Public Convention of Uzhgorod Euromaidan issued a statement about the "new-old" Mayor Victor Pogorelov.

We publish it in full.

"Given the fact that no member of Uzhgorod City Council currently shows in their actions the will to listen to the community and meets current public requirements, the NGO "Public Convention" as a co-organizer of the Transcarpathian Euromaidan brings to the attention of concerned citizens and media their position on the political life of our city.

We inform you that we do not and will not recognize Victor Pogorelov as legitimate mayor. His stay in the mayor’s office will take legal grounds neither after his inclusion into the Executive Committee nor after publication of the full court’s decision to reinstate him on the post. The withdrawal of the appeal to the above decision by Uzhgorod City Council as the defendant under the oral instructions of the plaintiff in this case V.Pogorelov is illegal, contains elements of corruption act and should be the subject of interest of law enforcement.

Regarding the Secretary of Uzhgorod city council, deputy mayor and newly appointed members of the Executive Committee, we would like to emphasize that they were elected in an unconstitutional manner, in violation of numerous laws and regulations, ignoring public opinion. Currently, appointments of the above officials have been challenged in court, citizens will be further informed of the time and place of the hearing.

As of now, the management of Uzhgorod is illegitimate almost in full.

Therefore, for the purpose of unbiased audit of local government and effective control over the use of public funds, the NGO "Public Convention" formed the department of audit and legal support. We call on all active and concerned citizens of the city to join our initiatives and prevent further lawlessness and permissiveness rule in Uzhgorod."
