On Thursday, water tariffs in Ukraine may rise

The National Commission for State Regulation of the Energy and Utilities, on Thursday, March 19, will decide on raising water tariffs for the population.

This was announced on his Facebook page by a member of the Commission Andriy Gerus.

"And the bill №2010, which today was considered by the fuel and energy complex subcommittee in the Parliament, proposes to raise "green" tariffs for manufacturers of electricity from biomass, biogas and hydroelectric power," – Gerus said.

"We will obey any passed law, but we will be honestly explaining to consumers the reasons for the growth. It seems that in the near future we will have to adjust our schedule of tariffs for the population until 2017," – he concluded.

"At the meeting on Thursday, we will decide on raising water tariffs for the population. This need has arisen due to the growth of the electricity cost by 30% since last summer," – Gerus wrote.

In addition, he said, water utilities have outstanding debts to the EBRD and the World Bank of about 1 billion hryvnia. Mainly due to the devaluation and rapidly rising prices for electricity, which accounts for 50% of the cost of water.
