October 14, Eastern Rite Christians celebrate the Holy Protection Day. In Uzhgorod, there is a sacred placer, "dubbed" in honor of the holiday. This refers to the early 20th century church simulating Russian architecture, which is located near the regional Prosecutor’s Office.

"Over 350 thousand crowns was spent for the building of the Holy Protection church at the now Pravoslavna embankment – historian Yuriy Danilets says. – Although, before the construction, they had only 13… It was built in a very short time – less than a year." All the inhabitants of the region contributed, but it still considered that the church was erected by white immigrants.

By the way, one of the benefactors of the Holy Protection church was a gentlewoman from Russian Empire, Princess Anastasia… Generally, in the past parishioners prayed there to the icons that belonged to the royal family. In particular, 2 icons of St. Nicholas.

"Nothing has left of the rarities – the present abbot Mykola Kabatsi says. – At least they could save the king’s gate and some of the iconostasis."

Now "Pokrovka" is popular not only among Christian believers but also among researchers of other religions, especially for the holidays… However, few people know that it still exists thanks to a strange coincidence… In the archive, there are documents where "Transcarpathian atheists" requested the Soviet authorities to immediately demolish the church.
