“Nut rush” has begun in Transcarpathia: the best crop is in Khust district

Nut "butterflies" in the markets of Irshava district cost up to 120 UAH.

Late autumn is the season of nuts sales. Prices are constantly changing. However, on average shelled nuts are 100-120 UAH / kg. The second and third grades are much cheaper – 60-80 UAH / kg.

However, for the Transcarpathians, especially residents of the villages, who have their own nut plantations, sale of nuts is a considerable financial support for the family budget. As for the purchasers, they mostly travel around the region in search of the best nuts.

In a day, on average, they can buy up to 10 bags weighing 300-400 kg. This year, the nut buyers say, the best crop is in Khust district. Meanwhile, Irshava district, lost up to 70% of the harvest due to hail and strong wind in early summer. Then, the nuts are exported abroad, where the price is several times higher.

A Transcarpathian, who lives in Prague – Kristina Dankanych, went to see the price for nuts in one of the popular stores. Thus, 200 g of shelled nuts are just above 100 hryvnias. So, a kilogram is more than five hundred. Even unshelled nuts cost three times more. According to the Transcarpathian, most of the nuts come from Ukraine. In other shops, the prices for "Ukrainian" nuts are much higher.
