Not only “wholesalers” cut down Transcarpathian forest, village poachers are actively engaged in it too

According to the police, facts of illegal felling of trees were recorded in neighboring Velyky Berezny and Perechyn districts. A local forester reported to Perechyn patrol policemen that in the forest near the village of Pastilky, unknown persons were cutting down trees. The policemen arrived at the scene and detained a truck GAZ-66, in which a 67-year-old pensioner from the village of Dubrynychi was carrying about four cubic meters of wood. The man had no documents for the cargo. The truck with wood was taken to the police impound lot.

The same day, another forestry worker called the police officers to report that he had detected illegal logging in the village of Kostrynska Rostoka in Velyky Berezny district. Poachers cut down 10 spruce trees in the forest.

As the police found out, the trees had been cut down by a 27-year-old resident of the village of Lyuta in Velyky Berezny district. The man confessed to the crime, he is being prosecuted. The wood was seized.

A truck with illegal wood was also stopped by Irshava police in the village of Bilky. The GAZ-66 driven by a 32-year-old resident of the village of Imstychevo was carrying 5 cubic meters of beech wood without proper documents. The car was delivered to the police impound lot.
