Ukraine is ready for visa-free regime with the EU in 2015

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine noted that they plan to receive a visa-free regime with the EU on January 1, 2015, but stressed that a lot depends on the internal procedures of the European Union.

This was stated by the First Deputy Foreign Minister Natalia Halibarenko at a briefing in Kyiv on Thursday, "Interfax-Ukraine" reported.

She noted that the European Union, in order to take the final decision, must see the relevant reports of expert missions that will assess the implementation of the Action Plan on visa liberalization by Ukraine, then adopt a technical decision, and only then make a political decision.

Halibarenko gave the example that almost a month passed between the adoption of the recent decision by the European Commission on the assessment of the activities of Ukraine for a visa-free regime with the EU and the support of this decision at political level.

The First Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine said that in September and October two expert missions of the EU would visit Ukraine to provide guidance for Ukraine to complete the second phase of the action plan for visa liberalization.

"We have set for ourselves strict term of six months, but that does not mean that we will have a visa-free regime on January 1, 2015, even if we fulfill everything," – Halibarenko concluded.
