Uzhgorod continues to lose its historic beauty (PHOTOS)

Recently, a historic building constructed in 1897 (as indicated on the facade) at the corner of Sobranetska and Krylov streets has become a subject of hot debates. The fact that the owners of the apartment located on the second floor of this 115-year-old building replaced the old authentic wooden frames with the banal  plastic, and ruined the facade with air-conditioning blocks disturbed the public.Meanwhile, slightly smaller in size, but no less interesting house in Sobranetska street stays in the shadow of its "hyped" neighbor. Unusually rich and the exquisite moulding used to add a unique appearance to this one-storeyed house . And even todays, in this partially ruined condition, the patterns amaze with their beauty. However, this beauty intensively contrasts with the background of peeling walls, bricks that show through the stucco, pieces of plastic downpipes …It’s obvious that the house is privately owned, and it is possible that its owners cannot afford the restoration. However, destruction of this house – would be undoubtedly considered an enormous loss for the city.
