New streets will appear in Uzhgorod

Public discussion on renaming of a lane and part of a park in Uzhgorod, as well as the names of new streets was held today in the large hall of the city council, the Uzhgorod City Council informed

The participants of the discussion supported the renaming of Mostovy lane to Eduard Mykhailyants lane – after the outstanding wine-maker, who made Transcarpathian wines and cognacs famous all over the world.

They also supported the naming of the new streets of the city after prominent public and cultural figures of Ukraine and Transcarpathia: Levko Lukyanenko – a Ukrainian political and public figure, writer, dissident, a fighter for Ukraine’s independence in the 20th century, the author of the "Declaration of Independence of Ukraine"; Mykhailo Suslikov – Ukrainian choreographer, People’s Artist of Ukraine, artistic director of the Honored Amateur Dance Ensemble "Yunist of Zakarpattya"; Mykola Popenko – a leading choir conductor, composer, folklorist, teacher, Honored Artist of Ukraine, conductor of the Transcarpathian folk choir.

And the proposal of the Chernobyl Union of Ukraine to rename part of Rotary Park to the Heroes of Chernobyl Park was not supported at today’s meeting.
