Nevytsky castle is in the Top 10 most picturesque… destroyed fortresses of Ukraine

American company, National Historical Commission, which has been exploring historical heritage around the world, has conducted an analysis of Ukrainian castles. They focused on those that have been destroyed for various reasons. They were looking for the most interesting castles from historical standpoint, the Zakarpatpost informs.

So, the company has identified ten most notable castles. It is gratifying that the unique Transcarpathian attraction – the Nevytsky castle, located in Kamyanytsia village of Uzhgorod district – made it into the top 10.

The Americans were struck by the pompousness of the architectural ensemble, the formidable towers, the history of the fortress, that, according to official sources, was built in the XII century.

It should be noted that for a long time the castle remained abandoned, despite the fact that a number of studies were conducted nearby, and local experts can tell a lot of interesting facts from the history of the fortress. Now enthusiasts are trying not only to preserve but also to restore the unique sight.

Recall that tomorrow, November 25, you have a chance to learn a lot of interesting things about the history of Transcarpathia. On Saturday, November 25, at 10.00, the School of Young Archeologist of the Transcarpathian Tourism Center (director – Dzembras O.V.) together with the Transcarpathian Local Lore Museum will hold an open class at the Museum conference hall.
